What is a Roman Blind?
Roman blinds have been made for hundres of years, using cloth and pulley systems to make the blind lower to a complete flat piece of fabric, or raise to bundle up into folds of material.
Usually designed with a fixed pelmet, there are several options to creating a roman blind.
Do you wish to have soft furnishing, or easy to wipe fabric?
Soft furnished Romans are hand made to your sizes, with invisable stitching, and a choice between thermally lined (better for heat loss and blackout effect) or plain (thin and decorative)
Easy to Wipe Fabric is mainly made from polyester, and gives straight edged to the folds. Generally there is no pelmet on these blinds, but there is a wider choice of fabrics available on this site now (Click on Easy to Wipe Fabric to show our category of Plain, Blackout, Patterned and Sheer Voile Romans).
Do you require a chain pulley mechanism or string cord?
You can have a chain hanging from the left or right hand side that runs off an inch and half sized headrail. On Easy wipe fabrics, this means the romans can be made larger than soft furnishing.
With the string cord, the fabric is soft furnishing only which is attached using velcro onto a wooden baton roughly ¾ inch wide. The cord is tied off using a cleat (metal bar attached to side of window which gives better child protection) and gives a more luxurious feel to the window.
